10 AWARDS JOY Electric Candy squad scoop thirteen cheers

Silverware on show

An East Kilbride cheerleading club scooped some silverware which is now on proud display in their new ‘cheer gym’.

Electric Candy Cheerleaders took a squad to Dundee last month to compete in their first competition of the season at the Steve Walls Classic in the city’s Caird Hall.

And the trip to Tayside proved to be a resounding success with the Electric Candy girls bringing home 13 trophies – one for every division.

The winners were: Sarah Kelly and Brogan Muir – 1st place junior cheer duo; Rebecca Masson – 2nd place senior jazz solo; Cerys Lamont – 3rd place youth jazz solo; Olivia Martin – 2nd place mini jazz solo and Madisyn Lamont – 1st place tiny hip hop solo.

The cheer squad – after almost 20 years in the business – have had more to celebrate and are thrilled to have secured a training gym in the Kelvin Industrial Estate where a new novice tiny team has started for kids aged three to six.

Coach Nicola Hamilton said: “While we would not normally compete so early on in the year we thought it might be a nice introduction to lots of our new members before our nationals in June. The Steve Walls Classic is a great competition and proved to be very successful for all the Candy family.”

Nicola was particularly delighted with the medal haul as so many of her cheerleaders were new to the team and had never competed before.

She added: “The competition was a great success but also the first time we as a team got to watch our members perform in the Team Scotland team who were excellent and performed great.

“They should do Electric Candy proud when Sarah and Rebecca perform in Florida this April.”
