Colin’s Haven-sent chance to help out
Running for friend who has incurable cancer
A Glassford runner will this year become the first person to represent The Haven charity at the 2018 London Marathon.
Photographer and dad Colin Smith, 43, is taking on the iconic challenge.
Avid runner Colin explained: “I have a very good friend who has incurable breast cancer and the aim now is to try and prolong her life and make it as comfortable as possible.
“She accesses The Haven services, receiving vital emotional support, and benefits greatly from complementary therapies.
“I will be running the marathon in aid of my dear friend as I would love to be able to help her and others get the support they need.”
The Haven, with centres in Blantyre, Forth and Wishaw, supports people affected by lifelimiting illness and invites people to support Colin in his fundraising challenge and help him raise vital funds.
June Sutherland is Haven service manager.
She said: “Colin is making history for The Haven as our first official runner and we are very excited to support him not only on his personal journey taking on this challenge, but to support his fundraising efforts.
“Fundraising from individuals like Colin is essential to allow The Haven as a charity to continue to grow and provide the muchneeded support people need at such difficult times in their lives.
“The Haven team wishes Colin great success in his training, and we can’t wait to watch and see him represent The Haven on the day.”
