Clearing up after your dog

-

Dear Editor, If you own a dog, clean up after it.

It seems some people can’t be bothered or they think it’s beneath them to pick it up.

It’s absolutely disgusting seeing dog dirt scattered about, especially in the recent snow when young kids have being out playing in it.

This clearly isn’t a concern to the ones who obviously don’t care!

It takes a few seconds of time to use a bag and pick up YOUR own dog’s mess and bin it.

But it doesn’t count if you bag it then fling it on the path or into the nearest hedge which also seems a regular occurrence too.

It’s just totally ill-mannered, selfish and blatantly ignorant. IB, East Kilbride

Council did their best Dear Editor,

I don’t know where HB Maloudi lives in East Kilbride, but South Lanarkshire Council’s response to the snow wasn’t inadequate (Inadequate response, January 31).

All of the major roads were kept open and minor roads aren’t wide enough for a gritter. Living on a hill, it’s tough, but we used the grit bins supplied by SLC.

Imagine what better services we would have if the last Labour council wasn’t forced to pay out £82 million for equal pay claims. This is what the current SLC inherited. Charles Andrew, The Murray

Your support is vital Dear Editor,

As we start out on another year, I wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to your readers and our supporters for their continued commitment to the charity.

Many of your readers have taken part in a host of challenge events and raised funds through sweat, perhaps a few tears, and sheer determination.

Others have supported events as volunteers and without this army of support we simply wouldn’t be able to function.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our charity, supporting fundraising, working in our services and shops.

By donating and shopping in our eight stores in East Kilbride, Rutherglen, Uddingston, Motherwell, Wishaw and Coatbridge, your readers have helped our local services as the profits from retail go directly to support the charity’s work with some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged children and young people.

And finally, our thanks to you for supporting us by telling your readers about our events, news and campaigns and helping to raise awareness of the work we do in the local community throughout the year.

We look forward to their continued support in 2018. Martin Crewe, Director, Barnardo’s Scotland

Figures are no surprise Dear Editor,

It is no surprise that people from East Kilbride have decided not to use the train to get to work and causing usage to drop (Rail figures are going down the wrong track, January 31).

On several mornings, the trains before 9am that workers would take are cancelled at the last minute.

My friend has had his wages docked because he was late and was also out of pocket having to pay for a taxi.

This is no way to keep or attract passengers. B McK, Westwood
