Jags see red as they finish with eight men

Boss: ‘Shocking discipline when it comes to dissent’

and if we don’t start picking up points, we will find ourselves at the wrong end of the table. To go down to eight men is just unacceptable.”

The team fought out a goal-less first half, but St Roch’s broke the stalemate seconds after the interval.

McManus collected the ball on the left and fired it beyond Jags keeper Allan Creer from six yards.

St Roch’s doubled their advantage in 56 minutes in controversial circumstances. McManus appeared to be offside when he latched onto a through ball and as he found himself one-on-one against Creer, he crumpled to the ground in a heap as Creer dived for the ball.

Thistle claimed the player dived, but the referee was having none of it and booked Creer for his protestations.

From the spot-kick former East Kilbride FC player Daw stepped up and fired the ball beyond Creer.

Despite this, Thistle fought back and won a penalty of their own in 75 minutes for hand ball. Ryan stepped up and hammered the ball high into the net to spark hopes of a comeback.

However, moments later Marshall received his second yellow for a crunching tackle and in the closing stages both Callum McLean and Scott McKean were ordered off for comments made to the referee.

It was a costly day all round as Thistle’s fifth defeat in nine league games saw them drop to ninth in the table.

They now head into Saturday’s clash with leaders Rossvale with McKean, McLean and Marshall suspended.

Discussing the sending offs, Paterson added: “We were just about to take Graeme off when he slid in and made a silly tackle. There’s no complaints about that, but his first booking was for dissent and we need to cut these things out.

“Callum was caught with an elbow and he was incensed the ref didn’t take action. That led to a straight red for dissent and I feel at that point the referee was losing it a bit.

“For Scott’s red card, their player has gone down easily and stayed down to waste time. Scott has said the St Roch’s player was taking the p*** out of the ref, but it seems a bit much to get sent off for that.

“At the end of the day, the players shouldn’t be giving the referee the option to send them off.”
