Potholes driving us mad

- Dear Editor,

Having read last week’s article on potholes in the town (Pothole Patrol, EK News, 07/02/18) I had to laugh.

Gordon Mackay [South Lanarkshire Council’s head of roads and transportation] states “we undertake regular inspections on all our roads” and “defects identified during these inspections are repaired as necessary.” Really? Do they drive about – sorry, weave about, because that is the only way to try to avoid them – with their eyes shut?

That is the ONLY way they could possibly miss the utter disgrace of the state of the roads.

And Linda Fabiani, who is always on about how she cares for East Kilbride and does her best for the town, also comments about potholes and that the bad weather makes the potholes worse?

While I agree snow and ice etcetera can make the so-called holes worse the fact is, these craters were here before the bad weather hit.

Whoever the company is that is supposed to be fixing the roads only fills the craters with chips and dross and compacts it and covers it with a very thin layer of tar.

After the cars and buses go over it a few times and the craters reappear, the dross is scattered all over the road.

This is also dangerous and nothing short of a disgrace.

Lickprivick Road, Greenhills Road, Queensway, Westwood Road,Windward Road, Eaglesham Road,Lindsayfield Road – the list is endless. This is years of neglect and a disgrace. As for reporting any potholes, we would be better reporting any intact roads because they are few and far between.

South Lanarkshire Council should be ashamed by the state of the roads in this town, instead of going on about how wonderful a job they are doing!
