Wishaw writer Thomas Undreaming of success

East Kilbride News - - THE TICKET -

A Wishaw author has finally fulfilled a lifetime ambition and is set to release his debut novel.

Thomas Welsh had always been interested in creative writing from an early age but lacked the motivation to finally write a novel.

That was until the creative spark began to come to life with Thomas now about to launch Anna’s Undreaming, part of a trilogy of books, next month.

Early reviews of the fantasy thriller have been extremely positive and Thomas can’t wait for his book to finally be released.

The 37-year-old said: “I’ve been overwhelmed with the support and encouragement I’ve had so far.

“My publishers have been approached by three Hollywood production companies about optioning the book, and we’re already listed in the top 500 most anticipated fantasy novels of 2018 on Goodreads, coming in at number 40.

“I think if you enjoy writing your personality comes through and I think that’s been the case with the book.

“When I started writing the words just flew out of me.

“I had started writing my book as a Christmas present for my wife. I got the first two or three chapters printed as a silly gift and she said ‘you need to write more of this so I can see what happens!’”

The book centres around Anna who finds herself hunted by Dreamers—artists, both good and evil, who construct new worlds— within a complex community that threatens to undermine reality itself.

When Anna learns that she’s an Undreamer with powers she cannot yet comprehend, she must travel through their strange and treacherous creations to discover that there’s as much beauty in life as there is darkness.

As her existence spirals into wonder and danger, Anna must look deep within herself and face the horrors of her own past, to save her old world as well as her new one.

Thomas combines writing with his day job helping students with disabilities at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He also enjoys the support of wife Nana and parents Annette and Thomas Snr.

He added: “My family have always been there for me.

“I’ve had a few short stories that have been printed but this is on a different level.

“I had written so much that in the end I had to split them up so I’m already well on my way to finishing the second book in the series.

“Hopefully we will have that out very soon.”

Anna Undreaming by Thomas Welsh, published by Owl Hollow Press, will hit the shops on March 20. You can pre-order your copy now from Amazon and other retailers.
