Hey! That’s my pakora...
Dear Editor,
On Saturday, March 3 my son’s partner held her 40th birthday celebration within a function suite in the Salmon Leap, Calderwood.
The substantial buffet had been arranged to be delivered mid-evening.
When it did not arrive, enquiries were made to find that it had been mistakenly delivered to a function next door.
And they, without so much as a by your leave, had consumed our buffet!
To whoever these people were, shame on you. If this had been a benefit evening we were having with little funds this act could have been devastating.
Just shows you what some people can be like. Stewart Lawson, via email
Powerofthepeople
Dear Editor,
After reading the replies about the state of East Kilbride roads, I read with interest about the Whitehills mum and her campaign (Mum vows to tackle roads hell, February 21).
I have also noticed that since I and other East Kilbride News readers have complained, all of a sudden South Lanarkshire councillors have come out the woodwork and started making noises about the condition of the roads.
Archie Buchanan, Jim Wardhaugh, Gerry Convery and John Anderson etc are now trying to turn this issue into a party political broadcast!
Before WE made our feelings known their silence was deafening. I’ve noticed that Linda Fabiani MSP (who is never done telling us how much she cares about EK) has also been very quiet.
You have all sat by and watched the roads deteriorate into what now resembles craters on the moon but now all of a sudden councillors are all so concerned. Councillor Anderson states that under Labour the funding was cut and the roads were underfunded but under SNP control they have spent more money. There is no difference and if anything the roads are the worst they have ever been.
Every one of South Lanarkshire’s councillors should be ashamed of themselves for their complete indifference to this issue until the people of East Kilbride started to complain. Mrs Baillie, EK resident
Whytheneedforcuts?
Dear Editor,
South Lanarkshire Council have indicated they will be increasing council tax for 2018/19 as they have not increased it for 10 years.
However, the Scottish Government DID increase council tax considerably for all properties in Band E upwards last year. This money was paid to South Lanarkshire Council by these households. Why, therefore, are so many cuts forecast? Marion Craig, via email
Childcareconcerns
Dear Editor,
Regarding Monica Lennon’s Working for You article (SNP playing with childcare, February 28).
I have now read Audit Scotland’s report in full and some councils have reported that the funding from Scot Government will not cover the costs of the increased childcare.
In response to the report, the Scot Government repeated its pledge to fully fund the policy. Based on the facts, I believe that Ms Lennon MSP is more concerned with scoring political points than free childcare. Charles Andrew, The Murray
