Good sports raise cash for school funds

-

Duncanrig Secondary’s PE department hosted their first sportathon in several years to raise money for school funds – and support charities in their community.

Over 100 S1/S2 pupils attended the evening event.

As part of the sportathon, students took part in a variety of activities led by PE staff including gymnastics, clubbercise, dance, trampolining, football, netball, ninja warrior challenges, basketball, taekwondo and boxing.

PE teacher Kirsten MacLellan said:“Our senior pupil sports captains, vice-captains and S4 helpers were also present for the duration of the evening and led on alternative activities such as fitness boot camp, American football, football and tennis.

“Working closely with our active schools co-ordinator also allowed us to partner with outside agencies to offer pupils a chance to participate in novel sporting opportunities including fencing, parkour, tennis and bubble football.

“Some of the senior pupils going to Luwero, Uganda ran a tuck shop during the scheduled breaks and the pupils enjoyed a pizza party at midnight and a very comical quiz session following their big feed.”

Ms MacLennan added:“The pupils had an amazing time throughout the night and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of the event.”
