Aileen’s medal chance

with our performances. I think any of the teams out there, when they bring their A game, can be on the podium at the end of the week, so whoever we’re playing, it’s always nice to get a win.

“We have settled in well to the village and were delighted to win our first game against Norway, the current world champions.

“We had a disappointing game against Switzerland but we learned from that and showed our resilience and determination with a win against Finland.

“Any time you have a defeat you look back at what’s gone. What could we have done better, what didn’t we do so well and what things do we need to change from that?

“We certainly did that after the first game, we perhaps didn’t play at our best and that’s why we lost but we improved as the day went on and got that win.

“Day three was a good day at the office with convincing wins against Sweden and Canada and we will need to maintain that kind of execution in order to secure more wins.

“This is a long competition where you might not play at your best in every game but that’s something we’ve known at the start.

Should they progress, the gold medal and bronze medal matches will be held on Saturday.

Wheelchair curler Aileen Neilson led Team GB to some huge wins in the round robin event at the Winter Paralympics but their hopes of a medal hang in the balance.

The 46-year-old from Starthaven skipped her country to a stunning 8-1 win over defending Paralympic champions Canada after defeating world champions Norway 5-2 in their opening match in PyeongChang last week.

A defeat to Switzerland on day two was followed by an emphatic 9-2 victory over Finland and a win over Sweden. But on Monday they narrowly lost to Slovakia, suffering a 6-5 defeat, and yesterday they suffered a bruising 8-2 defeat to a ‘neutral‘ Paralympics team made up of Russian athletes (Russia, as a nation, are banned from entering the Games over the recent doping scandal in previous Olympics and Paralympics).

The results leave Team GB sitting fifth in the table with four games to play and only the top four go through to contest the medals.

After the win over Canada, Neilson said:“I’m really pleased
