Sinclair sends EK through

-

Kenny Sinclair hit the winning spot-kick as East Kilbride Thistle Amateurs progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on penalties.

The Jags side managed to beat the weather on Saturday to get the game on and enjoyed a dramatic penalty shootout win over Bargeddie in their first competitive outing in a month.

After 90 minutes the game was tied at 2-2 and Thistle went on to win the shootout 8-7.

Thistle started the brighter, creating a couple of good chances and making the Bargeddie keeper work.

But it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play.

Thistle hit back immediately through a sharp turn and finish from Gary Noble inside the box.

Early in the second half, Bargeddie caught the Jags on the break and scored again to edge 2-1 ahead.

With Bargeddie now sitting back and trying to hold on to their lead, Thistle created chance after chance with Steven Oates and Cammy Smith going close to a leveller.

Thistle equalised with 15 minutes to go thanks to a smart finish from Peter Carr and that forced the game to go straight to penalties.

With Bargeddie missing their 10th penalty, Sinclair kept his cool to slot home the decisive kick and send Thistle into the last eight.

Team: Connelly, McSherry, Sloan, Campbell, Sinclair, Wilson, Hamilton, Carr, Brown, Oates, Noble. Subs - Dolan, Smith, MacLean, McGlone, Tracey.
