Losing has become a habit – Jags skipper

- Paul Thomson

Dougie Ryan admits losing has become a habit for East Kilbride Thistle and they must shake themselves out of it to avoid a relegation battle.

The Jags skipper was furious with his side as they slumped to a 6-3 defeat at St Roch’s on Saturday, having trailed 4-0 at the break.

It was their fifth defeat on the spin and their seventh in 11 games, leaving them two points off the Central District First relegation zone.

And Ryan said:“In the first half we were terrible. We gave away goals far too easily and made too many individual mistakes.

“If we are going to change things, it starts with attitude and desire.

“Losing has become a habit and we need to shake ourselves out of it.

“After the past few results we are looking over our shoulder at the bottom end of the table, whereas earlier in the season we were looking at a top four place – and we really believed we could get there.

“There’s always going to be a lull at some point in a season, but we haven’t responded to the bad results yet. “We have to remedy that.” Thistle will now hope to find a winning formula on Saturday when they host second bottom Lesmahagow at K-Park and Ryan is confident his side can change their fortunes

The 32-year-old from Westwood added:“Any scrappy win will do just to end this bad run we are on and start getting the confidence back.

“I fully expect us to do that this weekend. Lesmahagow is a must win game and nothing less than three points will do when we are playing teams below us.

“The boys know we are good enough and we have a squad capable of winning games, we just need to get that win under our belts to get us going again.”
