Parking just part of problem

Dear Editor, Interesting to see that parking capacity at Hairmyres train station park-and-ride could be increased (Extension plans for Hairmyres car park, March 14).

Not before time I say but this is only part of the problem for those of us who travel to and from Glasgow every day using rail services.

While extra parking at the station could free up spaces in the hospital car park, and that would be welcome, what chance is there of more drivers deciding to leave their cars behind and taking the train to work?

Until the rail service between East Kilbride and Glasgow improves, I’d suggest very little.

Overcrowding, delays and cancelled services; you can’t afford to have these things if trying to tempt people to use public transport more often.

As your report last week and previous reports have made clear – the number of passenger journeys on this particular line are down for a reason. Commuter, via email
