Approval for school catchment
Pupils attending a planned new primary school in Jackton will be zoned to Calderglen High.
A report went before councillors at a meeting of South Lanarkshire Council’s executive committee following a public consultation and meeting in to proposals to change the catchment areas of both Duncanrig Secondary School and Calderglen High School .
The option to zone Jackton to Calderglen High was approved.
Another option which was part of a statutory consultation with parents, carers and staff was to change the association of Greenhills Primary School from Duncanrig Secondary School which would mean pupils would transfer to Calderglen High School as the local secondary school.
However only 12 people out of the 276 who took part in the consultation voted for this with overwhelming support for the first option.
The report to councillors stated:“It was identified that the educational benefits of Option 2 (change the association of Greenhills Primary School from Duncanrig Secondary which would mean pupils transfer to Calderglen High School as the local secondary school) were not sufficiently clear and that the council would require to consider how to address the concerns raised should it decide to implement this option.”
Other concerns were travel distance and transport issues, safer routes to school and staffing issues.
