Smokey gets in your eyes

-

For a great look for your peepers, few beat the classic smokey eye … it’s alluring, sexy and easier to achieve than you might think.

Smokey eyes are pretty simple to do because there are no edges – it should be a soft blended look which can be done with one colour.

If you want something a little more eye-catching you colour etc, but the classic smokey eye is pretty straight forward.

If you want to get an idea of how great the smokey look is, have a peek at the Turkish Delight advert from the 80s.

The star has a mesmerising pair of perfect smokey eyes which, considering the advert is from 1984, proves that it is a timeless look.

And you can achieve it in a few simple steps.

Use a base/primer across both eyelids and blend it with your fingers. You can use a primer such as Stay Don’t Stray by Benefit or use a soft eye pencil. If you want a dark smoke, go for dark grey or black. If you want a vibrant colour, white is a good base.

Using a flat firm brush, tap your shadow into the primer. This will take a few minutes but take your time and really work it in. The more time you spend on this step, the longer your look will last.

Matt shadows are the most difficult to work with so anything satin or even frosted is much easier to blend.

Using a tapered blending brush, go around the edges with back and forth strokes to soften the hard edges.

Use a dark liner inside the waterline of the eyes and again around the top lash line.

Using a pencil brush or the tip of your flat shadow brush, continue the shadow under your bottom lash line and blend to a soft edge. Finish with mascara. This is a fantastic look that will make the most of any eyes and is sure to get you noticed.
