Cheryl glad she banded together with Rubian
The Airdrie singer of an up-and-coming band has said she “can’t wait” for them to get back on stage.
Cheryl Risk, who fronts indie-pop four-piece Rubian, says the group have a big summer ahead as they prepare for various gigs throughout Glasgow. The former solo artist, who joined the band 18 months ago after reading an online advert, is loving life in the quartet. After headlining the iconic King Tut’s at the end of February, Cheryl says the band’s hunger to keep progressing has only grown. She told the Ticket: “Everything is going really well at the moment!
“We’ve got a few gigs in the pipeline nearer summer that we’re excited about.
“We can’t say too much about them yet as they aren’t confirmed but we’re working towards them.
“We spend about 12 hours a week writing new material together so that, as well as playing live, is what we’re focusing on and we can’t wait to get back on the stage together.”
The band have taken great strides despite Cheryl having been part of Rubian for a relatively short time.
As well as King Tut’s they’ve played at venues such as the Record Factory and the quirky Citizen M hotel.
Not only that, they travelled to Amsterdam to play a concert over the Christmas period.
And Cheryl feels the musical bond she’s built with her bandmates couldn’t be better.
She added: “We all have quite differing musical tastes but it works really well when writing together.
“We bring lots of different ideas to the table in the jam room.
“We’re working on an EP just now and it has been brilliant writing that.
“Having four heads to put together, rather than working individually, has been a pleasant change for me.
“We all get on really well and working with like-minded people who have the same goal is great.”
Having been singing for a decade, Cheryl knows how difficult it is to break into the music industry.
But she remains positive, adding: “We’d love to go as far as possible with Rubian. We’re grabbing all the opportunities we can and want to play and write as much as possible.
“It’s hard to make it but we won’t limit ourselves in any way and will hope to keep progressing.”
