A pervert who admitted sexually assaulting a woman while she slept has been locked up for two years.

Cameron Jackson, 21, from Glassford Road in Strathaven, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years by Sheriff Thomas Millar.

Hamilton Sheriff Court previously heard that Jackson had a platonic relationship with the victim.

Fiscal depute Imran Bashir told the court that the victim was woken in the early hours of the morning by a phone call from a drunken Jackson asking if he could stay.

Despite the victim initially saying no as she was feeling unwell, she changed her mind and Jackson turned up at her door a short time later.

Mr Bashir went on: “The complainer thereafter got into the woman’s bed under the duvet with his jeans and T-shirt on and the complainer lay on top of the duvet covered with a fleece blanket and wearing her pyjamas.

“The complainer fell asleep but awoke some time later feeling discomfort in an intimate area.

“The accused had inserted a finger into her and as soon as she became aware of what was happening she was in a state of shock.

“The complainer asked the accused why he did what he did while she was sleeping and he replied: ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t know if you were asleep or not – you are never going to trust me again’.

“The complainer sent the accused to the couch.”

Mr Bashir added there were a number of text messages between the accused and victim.

Jackson wrote: ‘I am so sorry, I don’t even know what I was thinking,’ and in another he wrote: ‘I’m killing myself [inside]’.

The victim replied: ‘I don’t even know what to say to you – you do realise it’s sexual assault’.

The woman then contacted a friend in distress and her friend called the police. A medical examination was carried out on the victim and samples taken from Jackson who was detained by police and charged.
