Ross hits treble on return

-

Ross McDonagh netted a hat-trick on his comeback from injury as East Kilbride YM beat Stedfast Amateurs 6-3 in a friendly.

The striker had been sidelined for over a month with ankle ligament damage, but it didn’t take long for him to rediscover his scoring touch at the Scotstoun Showground on Saturday.

YM got off to a flyer as Mikey Carroll was fouled inside the area and McDonagh stepped up to score from the spot in the opening minutes.

In a dazzling opening spell Jordan Fletcher put the enigmatic Carroll through to double YM’s lead before McDonagh headed in Scott Chaplain’s corner to put YM three up.

Carroll then lob bed the keeper after half an hour to put YM on easy street.

Stedfast pulled a goal back from a corner kick after some sloppy YM defending but Connor McCann restored the four goal advantage, slotting Fletcher’s pass into the net for a commanding half time lead.

In the second half Stedfast mounted a mini comeback when they scored two goals to put some pressure on their visitors.

But a smashing move involving James Cameron, Paul McLean and Carroll saw McDonagh complete his hat trick with a low shot beyond the keeper, rounding off a comprehensive victory.

This Saturday YM are without a league fixture once again.

They play Arthurlie Amateurs in a friendly, kick-off 2pm at Toryglen Indoors.

Meanwhile, YM are keen to bring their history into the digital age and are asking any ex players if they have old photos, match reports or memorabilia to please get in touch with Les Goodfellow or Bobby Jamieson.
