There was sporting success at Cathkin House Care Home on Saturday – as residents held their very own Commonwealth Games.
Carpet bowls, shoot the cans, skittles and an egg-and-spoon race got the competitive juices flowing.
And residents were even treated to some Gold Coast weather as the sun shone for their afternoon garden party.
In keeping with the theme, traditional snacks from the countries of the Commonwealth were on offer including Australian Vegemite and crackers, Scottish shortbread, Canadian pancakes and syrup and rusks – a delicacy in South Africa.
Staff also got into the spirit of the occasion, coming to work in traditional dress, including the Australian cork hat and tartan, with Commonwealth flags decorated around the home.
Entertainment was provided by local singer Scott Dunbar who performed classic songs from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Lifestyle coordinator Kimberley Barratt told the News the event was an open invitation for the East Kilbride community.
She said: “It was great to have the local community involved and lots of the residents’ families came along with their grandchildren – it turned out to be a really enjoyable family affair.
