Readers have their say on Syria attack
Prime Minister Theresa May has defended the UK’s decision to launch air strikes with the United States and France in a bid to prevent the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Claiming last week’s coordinated attack was in the national interest, Mrs May insisted the move was the right thing to do, despite dividing the House of Commons after failing to seek parliamentary approval.
We asked East Kilbride shoppers if they agreed with the attacks on Syria and if they thought the PM should have consulted Parliament before taking military action.
Wilfred Jones, 66, from Greenhills said: “I think it was the right decision to bomb them. We can’t stand by and let people suffer these chemical attacks.”
Greenhills man Michael Dyer, 75, who spent 18 years in the Royal Air Force, said: “This was a pretty hasty move – Parliament should have sat and discussed this. What repercussions will there be for the next generation?”
Tom Rodgers, 70, of Stewartfield said: “May was wrong to do this. She is going the same route as Iraq and dragging us down another rat hole. One person should not be able to make this decision.”
Anne McKay, 59, of The Murray said: “It’s horrible and heartbreaking to watch all the innocent children on TV. This is a frightening and difficult time for our country.”
