East Kilbride Young Farmers Club (EKYFC) have appointed a new committee for the year ahead – and launched a huge fundraiser to mark the changes.

The organisation, which has been at the heart of the East Kilbride farming community for more than seven decades, wants to make a big impact following the appointments at the AGM.

As this is the 74th year of the club, the new-look top team have set a challenge to complete 74 hours working in the community.

This will involve EKYFC offering a helping hand around the town with litter pickings, helping homeless shelters and painting the rugby club for starters.

The club kicked off their community initiative with bagpacking at the weekend.

Incoming club chairman Craig Ferguson revealed that he is keen to make a difference.

He said: “The new club committee cannot wait to get started on handicrafts, country cook and the sports that start this month.”

New club secretary Mhairi Strang added: “This will be a challenge – but we want to get involved more in the community and make a difference.”

The committee is also keen to launch plans for their 75th year.

And they are inviting past members to come to an open meeting on Monday, May 14 at East Kilbride Rugby Club from 7.30pm to discuss how they can celebrate their big anniversary.

Contact Joe Cameron at joe. cameron@hotmail.co.uk if you have a suggestion of how the club can help out in the community,

The club is always on the lookout for new members.

If you are aged between 14 and 30 and want more information on the club, visit the new members’ night on Monday, April 30 at East Kilbride Sports Club.
