Miracle East Kilbride tot Lily Finnigan started this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk with a smile.

The 19-month-old Greenhills girl led over 10,000 fundraisers on the 26-mile trek from Glasgow Green to Balloch.

And, on the day, proud mum Cheryl O’Donnell and dad Gordon Finnigan raised over £700 for University Hospital Wishaw where Lily was born 25 weeks premature.

The News told how, tragically, Lily’s twin brother Lachlan didn’t survive for long after the birth. The twins each weighed less than 2lbs.

Cheryl had been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and – after a brave fight – Lachlan sadly passed away five months later.

The family now hold fundraising for the Wishaw hospital dear to their hearts and raised a whopping £3000 at last year’s Kiltwalk.

Cheryl posted about the proud moment she shared with her brave girl on her Facebook page, saying: “So proud of our our gorgeous miracle Lily, myself and Gordon getting up on stage in front of 10,000 people to tell our story and shout about the amazing staff at Wishaw Neonatal.

“We absolutely smashed this year – even managed a welldeserved drink at the end.

“Lily joined us at the end and crossed the finishing line with us.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us again this year. It means so much to us that we can give something back to Wishaw.”

She added: “The care they provided when our twins were born at 25 weeks was inspirational. We couldn’t of asked for more from the doctors and nurses.”

A record number of walkers took part in the event, which is expected to raise £2 million for 600 Scottish charities.

Glasgow Kiltwalk participants are expected to raise more than £1.5m. Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation pledged to top up their funds by 40 per cent.
