Busy time at Auldhouse WI

There were early birthday wishes for a member of Auldhouse WI at their latest meeting.

The organisati­on’s AGM took place at the Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride.

President Marion Davidson welcomed members.

Business matters were discussed including the minutes of previous meetings and AGM and committee reports were made.

Orders forWI calendars and diaries were taken and the list of speakers for next year’s syllabus was announced.

Members were reminded of the federation AGM, the Jackton outing, a needle felting class organised by the federation, Gardening Scotland and the national conference in Perth.

Motions to be raised at the conference were discussed and Auldhouse’s president will go as the voting delegate, accompanie­d by the secretary.

Entries for Chapelton and Strathaven shows were organised.

The president then announced that one of the members, Mrs Nancy Hinshelwoo­d, would be celebratin­g her 90th birthday later in the month and she was presented with a birthday cake and gift.

After tea, members were entertaine­d by a video presentati­on of photograph­s from the past 85 years of Auldhouse WI with many happy recollecti­ons of events – they were able to inspect a number of books and leaflets from the archive.

The president then recalled some of the competitio­n entries asked for in the past, including knitted gent’s socks, lots of jars of jam and chutney and homebaking.

The raffle was drawn and won by Jean Neilson.

The trophies for competitio­ns were presented as follows: Points Trophy to Kathleen Claudin; Endeavour Trophy to Aileen McBride; Dilmun Trophy won by Aileen McBride.

The competitio­n of a seascape photograph was won by Christine Eden.
