All the Money in the World (15)

Ridley Scott’s best film since 2008’s Body of Lies is a gripping take on the kidnapping of billionaire Jean Paul Getty’s grandson.

Christopher Plummer replaced shamed Kevin Spacey as Getty not long before the movie was released, and does a wonderful job.

Stubbornness, resolve and selfishness are all tested throughout.

Save Me (15)

Brit Lennie James gets to ditch his Walking Dead American accent to write and shine in this home-grown TV drama.

Matching him every step of the way is Suranne Jones, who hits every emotional height, while Stephen Graham performs a testing role superbly.

It’s a show that keeps you guessing right to the end.

The Ballad of Lefty Brown (15)

After a fun-but-flawed turn in Independence Day: Resurgence, it’s nice to see Bill Pullman star in a movie better suited to his acting talents.

He takes on a rare lead role too in a elegiac western dripping with sights and sounds associated with the genre.

Glaswegian Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) has charisma to burn and Kathy Baker and Jim Caviezel perform soulfully. Peter Fonda makes a welcome western return at the age of 77 and seems to relish every second of his screen time.

The film really does transport us back to the Old West with director Jared Moshe and cinematographer David McFarland combining to paint a dusty, lived-in portrait full of sandy browns and lush greens.
