Winter: Ideal boss would be a mix of Stark and Lauchlan
Strong startWinter Sean Winter reckons the next manager of East Kilbride must have a strong grasp of non-league football if they are to realise their promotion dreams. until a new boss is in place to help with the transition.
And Winter has stressed the importance of making a swift appointment.
He added: “I came here three years ago now and every season we’ve had a new manager.
“It’s hard to get everything going again when you have these changes and there’s not been a consistency in the management team, even if there has been a consistency in the players who have played for the club recently. “It takes time to get used to a new manager and his ideas and we saw that at the start of the season when Billy came in.
“We need to get someone in quickly and try to make a good start in the league this time.
“When we won the league a couple of seasons ago, we had a 10-point lead by Christmas and that’s where we would ideally aim to be again next season because that really sets you up for the second half.
“But it’s going to be an even tougher league next season.
“You could be looking at five or six teams battling for the one position.
“We need to get a bit of stability here and go from there.”
Kilby skipper Barry Russell also echoed much of Winter’s views on a new manager.
He said: “It needs to be someone with a winning mentality. A manager who will come in and sign his own players and get the best out of them.
“Next season has to be our year – we can’t go backwards anymore. “We need to improve on this season. “It’s a big job to do that in a short space of time, but I would think the club want to keep the majority of this squad and build on it.”
