Mixed views on nursery

Some East Kilbride residents have slammed proposals to build a nursery on Westwood recreation ground – but there were mixed views over the proposal online.

Jennifer Foster posted:“I agree that the pitches should be maintained properly and used for their original purpose. I also would like to see a new council nursery purpose-built, however, there are plenty of existing brownfield sites to do that on. Where the new Lidl is being built at the centre would have been a prime site.”

Margaret Macdonald agreed, saying:“A dump that could be regenerated with vision. The council should be working with the local community to regenerate this area as funding is available through many avenues.”

Elspeth McManus said:“The council has an obligation to retain this green space for all its local residents. They cannot possibly think that stealing this green space is acceptable. It is time there was some TLC put into this park. “It is way overdue.” However, Lesley Casey posted: “Popular recreation ground? It’s never used and is a complete eyesore.”

Steven Mushet wrote:“No one uses it anyway. It’s a waste of ground...just for dog walkers. Nothing happens there.”

Emma Hamilton added:“No one’s used it for years so it’s about time this wasted space got put to use.”

John Mcglone posted:“Just a shower of Nimbys.”
