Mixed fortunes for minis

-

Youngsters from East Kilbride Rugby Club’s mini sections had mixed fortunes at the weekend as they hosted sides from across the country.

Coaches were able to field individual units at each age-grade between primary one and three – a rare luxury for any club – but the downside was that the P1’s faced combined P1/2 selections from Cumnock, Whitecraigs and Linlithgow and lost all three.

The massive plus was that there was lots and lots of game time for each player. Sean McCudden touched down in all three games, Aaron Strokosch and Cooper Elder crossed twice while Ryan Biggart also scored.

The P2’s started slowly, losing 3-0 to Cumnock A, but recovered to top Strathaven 5-3, with Sam Bradley, Jacob Cosh, Max McQueen, Tristan Greig and Lewis McColl scoring.

Cumnock B were up next and EK made it two wins from three, Aimee MacDonald, Alistair Longmire and Sam Bradley scoring, before ending the day with a 4-3 win over Linlithgow; Bradley and McQueen splitting the tries.

The P3’s, unsurprisingly for a squad with nearly half of their players only having taken up the game this year, had a mixed afternoon.

There was a win over Strathaven and a draw with Whitecraigs, but defeats to Linlithgow and Cumnock followed.

Oliver Orenes, Lewis MacAleese and Luke McCudden topped the try charts for East Kilbride.
