New homes given green light
Hundreds of new homes on the site of the former Philipshill Hospital got the go-ahead yesterday.
A detailed planning application for 219 homes from BDW Trading Ltd and Philipshill Retirement Village Ltd was recommended for approval by South Lanarkshire Council officers.
The proposed development would include a mix of house types including two- and three-storey townhouses as well as three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached homes.
The application site extends to 12.8 hectares located to the west of Barbana Road and Grado Avenue, on the north western edge of East Kilbride.
Two vehicular accesses are proposed to the site, one from Barbana Road and one from Grado Avenue and developers say open park land will be part of the development together with a smaller area of open space.
Also approved at yesterday’s planning meeting was a development of 60 new homes for social rent on land adjacent to St Leonard’s Primary School on Brancumhall Road.
The site was surplus to requirement after the new school was built and the detailed application for two, three and four bedroom homes has been submitted by Cruden Building on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council who say the homes will cater for a broad mix of needs.
It will include terraced and semidetached homes as well as bungalows and cottage flats.
