Being Scottish, it’s understandable that when the temperatures rise we all run full pelt outside to soak up those rare rays of sunshine.
But just because a prolonged period of warm temperatures is unusual, it doesn’t mean to say we shouldn’t protect our skin.
Here’s three sun essentials to help combat UV rays:
1) Wear protective clothing – long trousers and long-sleeved shirts can offer protection when UV is at its highest.
Think linen and 100 per cent cotton clothing to keep you cool. Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and TopShop have great choices.
For kids, sun protection swimwear is available from the likes of SportsDirect, Trespass and The Disney Store. A hat is also a must.
2) Sunglasses – Look for a pair that blocks out 99 per cent or 100 per cent of UVB and UVA rays. For those needing prescription sunglasses, pop into Boots Opticians, Optical Express, Specsavers or Vision Express.
3) Suntan lotion – UV rays can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes. Put sunscreen on every part of your body that will be exposed and choose one that provides broad spectrum protection.
