Perfect conditions for Borders outing

- Edith Findlay

Enjoyable day Claremont Ramblers and friends set off from cloudcovered East Kilbride with hopes of finding slightly better weather in the Scottish Borders.

And it was slightly better – there were a few breaks in the clouds! All agreed, however, that an almost dry day with no excessive heat made for ideal walking conditions.

As usual, the walkers split into two groups. The main route was the Bier Law Circular, which took in 7.5 miles of forestry tracks and climbed over 800ft, worth it for the excellent views of the Tweed Valley and Walkerburn.

The alternative excursion was nearly as long but mainly on the level beside the River Tweed, where the sights included numerous herons and endless gorse in bloom.

A morning coffee stop was held in Moffat and the day ended with a very fine social hour in Peebles.

The club bus was full to capacity with walkers of all ages – all of whom thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The next scheduled walk will be this Sunday, the destination being Auchterarder to Dollar.

The next club meeting is on Tuesday, June 12, in the usual venue of Claremont Church’s small hall at 7.30pm.

William McDougall will be the speaker on this occasion and his subject will be‘A Life of Ties’.

Individuals wishing to join either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
