EKFC on cloud nine after Ayr trophy win

-

East Kilbride FC Girls are celebrating silverware after winning the under-13s Ayr International Scotland Trophy.

Coach Claire Muirhead and her squad beat strong opposition from across Scotland to land the prestigious cup.

After battling through the group sections, the girls defeated Ayr United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Rachel Dickson in a thrilling semi-final played at Rozelle Park.

And their glory day was capped with a stunning penalty shootout triumph against Kilwinning after a goalless final.

Ice-cool spot-kicks in the searing heat from Lucy Miller and Kirsty Jackson put EK in the driving seat during the shoot-out.

And sub keeper Freiya Robertson emerged as the hero with two saves after regular number one Ava Barrett went down with heat stroke despite keeping a brave clean sheet in the dramatic semi.

Muirhead said: “It was an unbelievable effort from the girls in extremely tough conditions. I’m so proud of them all. Every girl played their part in a great victory.”
