An East Kilbride beauty ditched the glamour when she hurled herself out of a plane from 10,000ft.

Miss Scotland finalist Zoe Balfour, from Torrance Wynd, chose to do a sky dive for the Friends of Sanderson.

And she presented a £3000 cheque to the charity last week ahead of this Friday’s Miss Scotland final.

The 20-year-old’s brother, Cameron, is in S6 at Sanderson High School – which is for pupils with additional support needs – and the charity will provide support to students and their families to open the door to fresh opportunities.

Zoe travelled to St Andrews, Fife for the tandem sky dive and generated the four-figure sum with other fundraisers.

“It was an incredible experience and it’s very hard to find the words to describe it,” she said.

“I have always been a bit of a daredevil – my family and friends weren’t surprised when I decided to do the sky dive.”

Zoe, who works in early years childcare, went on: “It was the first time I have ever done it and I wasn’t nervous at all which was surprising.

“I was more excited than anything else and I was over the moon to raise as much as I did and would like to thank everyone who supported me.

“I am delighted being a finalist in Miss Scotland has given me the platform to raise the profile of Friends of Sanderson.

“And no matter what the outcome on Friday, I will continue to work with them and help them in any way I can.”

She added: “Having seen first hand the incredible work the school does through witnessing how my brother Cameron has come on leaps and bounds, I didn’t even have to think about which charity I would support as part of Miss Scotland. “It was the obvious choice. “I’m now really looking forward to the finals and just can’t wait to compete – if I was crowned Miss Scotland it would be just amazing.”

Linzi McLelland from West Mains is also taking part in Friday’s Miss Scotland final.
