First Islamic centre East Kilbride’s first Islamic community centre is set to open its doors at the former Calderwood Library following a £260,000 renovation by charity buyer Dawat-e-Islami UK.

Chris Ladds posted:“It is wonderful to know that such an important place of social gathering which links and enriches the diversity of the East Kilbride community, is being fostered in the heart of Calderwood.

“What was an important community hub will now in another form continue to offer the same level of enrichment that helps bring the community together. It’s wonderful to see the building getting the due care and attention it needs after years of decline.”

SLouise Mill said:“It’s a community centre to accommodat­e the varied needs of the diverse community...a positive inclusive venture which I for one welcome in my community. Good luck to all involved.”

Ex-BB officer jailed

OAP William Cross was caged for five years for abusing young boys while he was a football team manager and Boys’Brigade officer.

JoJo Malarkie wrote:“Only five years is an insult. But a massive well done to the boys who came forward and reported him. That takes a lot of courage and bravery.

“Shame that two of the victims didn’t make it to see the outcome. That monster should be left in jail until the end of his life.”
