Lanarkshire charity The Haven received a bumper cash boost recently after one of their supporters smashed his fundraising target.

Avid runner Colin Smith, 43, from Glassford, took on the iconic challenge of running the London Marathon back in April and, having now collected in all of his donations, has raised an incredible £3700 for the charity.

Photographer Colin explained: “I have a very good friend who has incurable breast cancer and she accesses services at The Haven centre in Wishaw.

“She receives vital emotional support and benefits greatly from complementary therapies. She was my inspiration for taking on this challenge and it was amazing to have my family and my dear friend celebrating at the end of the hottest London Marathon on record.

“I am blown away by the amount raised and send huge thanks to everyone who donated and helped me exceed my target”.

Dr Rosalie Dunn, Haven founder, said: “Colin made history for The Haven, as our first official London Marathon runner. We were delighted to get a highlysought after space in this special event.

“Individuals like Colin taking on challenges and fundraising for us is essential.

“It allows The Haven as a charity to continue to grow and provide the much needed support people seek at such difficult times in their lives.

“The Haven team cannot thank Colin enough and we congratulate him on his success.”

The Haven offers programmes of support designed to help individuals cope with the physical, emotional and practical aspects of their illness and to enable them, their family and carers to face the future with hope.

Support is provided through a wide range of services, for example one to one nurse sessions, relaxation groups, men’s groups, bereavement support, or one-to-one complementary therapies.
