New homes set for go-ahead
Plans for new homes in East Kilbride and Avondale were set to be approved by councillors yesterday.
The proposals for a development of 18 flats on vacant land in Dundas Place in East Mains and 19 homes in Drumclog near Strathaven were recommended for approval by council officers in a report which was set to go before South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee.
Detailed plans for the Dundas Place development were lodged by Carnbroe Estates Ltd – but the new homes would be for social rent managed by East Kilbride Housing Association.
The 18 flats would be contained within two three -storey blocks on a partly- vacant site which has a building run as a dance studio on its eastern side.
Plans also include 20 parking spaces and a courtyard.
There were five letters of objection with concerns over parking and traffic congestion and a lack of privacy for the nearby Ladybank Court sheltered accommodation which could be overlooked.
Meanwhile, detailed plans from E & D Turner to demolish an existing singlestorey dwellinghouse at Turners Yard in Drumclog and change the industrial yard into 19 homes with associated garages and car parking were also recommended for approval.
The report states that the homes would be detached, semi-detached and terraced two-storey properties.
