West Mains boxer Chloe Bodwick is aiming to bring back gold for Scotland after being selected to represent her country in the GB Three Nations School Championships in Cardiff next month.

Last year, in her debut appearance for Scotland, the 14-year-old beat the English champion in the semi-final of the championships at the Regional Sports Facility in Ravenscraig. However, she was denied gold by a freak eye injury in the first round of the final against the Welsh champion.

This time, her coaches at O’Neils ABC in Cambuslang are confident that Chloe will make more history for the club by becoming their first British female champion.

She is already their first ever Scottish female champion and made history by becoming the first female to fight on the club’s home show at Blantyre Miners last year.

Chloe said: “I want to go one better than last year and win gold. I felt that I was able to win at Ravenscraig but the injury kept me from showing what I am capable of.

“My coaches at O’Neils and Boxing Scotland have been brilliant, working me hard and preparing me for this. I can’t wait!”

Brian Murphy, head coach at O’Neil’s, said “Chloe could have won last year if it wasn’t for the injury.

“She hasn’t had many bouts this year but she has been working hard in the gym and is looking sharp and strong.”

The championships are being held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff on July 28 and 29.
