Auld bikers reunite and raise cash for charity

-

A group of‘auld’bikers from East Kilbride held a fundraiser to gather much-needed cash for a mental health charity.

Auld EK Bikers is a Facebook group for biker friends who ran around together in the 70s and 80s within East Kilbride and have lost touch over the years.

However, it was decided to arrange a catch-up night and the best place would be The Village Inn, formerly The Yeoman, where they all used to drink.

It was a great night, with friends coming from all over the UK and beyond, and £620 was raised for Breathing Space.

One of the organisers, Louise Brown, said: “Breathing Space is a service close to the group’s hearts. The bikers wanted to support this worthwhile Scottish service, which offers people in distress necessary support in their time of need.”

Around 8000 calls are made to Breathing Space each month from people across Scotland struggling with low mood, stress or anxiety.

Breathing Space national coordinator Tony McLaren said:“We were very grateful for the donation which will be used to further promote Breathing Space within the local community in East Kilbride.

“Mental health is everyone’s business – talking things through with friends, family or Breathing Space can help if you’re feeling low.”

Breathing Space is open in the evenings and at the weekends on freephone 0800 83 85 87.
