EK could face goalscoring star Boyd

-

East Kilbride FC could be about to pit their wits against last season’s top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership tonight.

Kilmarnock are sending a side to K-Park for a pre-season friendly and a number of first-team players will get a run out, with star striker Kris Boyd among those in line to feature.

The ex-Rangers and Scotland hitman topped the charts in the Premiership last term, netting 18 goals and beating the likes of Rangers’ Alf re do Morelos and Celtic’s Moussa Dembélé to the accolade.

The Ayrshire side are currently involved in the Betfred League Cup.

However, they are not in action dur i ng t he midweek round of group fixtures and first team gaffer Steve Clarke is keen for some of his squad to get a run out.

So Kilby are in for a real test as manager Brian Kerr aims to get his central defensive pairing of Craig Howie and Craig Reid, who only signed last week, to bed in.

Reserve team boss Andy Millen will be in charge of the Rugby Park XI, but Clarke will be in attendance to run the rule over the squad, who are upping their preparations for their SPFL opener at home to St Johnstone on August 4.

Clarke said :“Kris has been training well, maybe I’ll have him back this weekend or maybe I’ll leave it another week.

“There’s also a midweek game at East Kilbride that I might use to give some of them 45 minutes.

“It’s a friendly game and you can use substitutions, so maybe I’ll use some of the more senior ones in that game.”

Kick-off tonight is 7.45pm and tickets are priced £6 for adults and £3 for concessions.
