TRIBUTES FOR ALEX Family devastated after teenager’s death

Family pay tribute to tragic teenager

The T heartbroke­n parents of a tragic East Kilbride teenager have spoken of their “overwhelmi­ng loss” as they prepare to lay their son to rest tomorrow.

Tributes have flooded in for 1 18-year-old Alexander Iain Bonomy Lindsay who was found dead in his St Leonards home on Sunday, July 8.

Alex’s mum Jill and dad Robbie told the News this week :“All of us are still struggling very hard to come to terms with what has been a devastatin­g event. For all of us there are moments where it is very difficult for us to contain our grief.”

A memorial service for the apprentice mechanic will take place tomorrow at 11am in Linn Crematoriu­m before he is laid to rest at Phillipshi­ll Cemetery.

Rememberin­g her beloved son, Jill said: “To me he was the most beautiful handsome boy in every way.”

Heart felt tributes are pouring in for popular 18-year-old Alexander Iain Bonomy Lindsay who was found dead in his St Leonards home on Sunday, July 8. Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstan­ces.

Alex’ s mum J ill, dad Robbie, sister Zoe and papa Iain this week spoke of their “overwhelmi­ng” feeling of loss and told the News: “All of us are still struggling very hard to come to terms with what has been a devastatin­g event.

“For all of us t here are moments where it is very difficult for us to contain our grief. In the early stages it was an overwhelmi­ng feeling of loss.”

Speaking through tears, J ill ,47, said :“Tome he was the most beautiful handsome boy in every way and I will miss hugging him and him making me smile and laugh.”

Robbie, 47, added: “I’m going to miss his smile and his quick-witted responses. Every day there won’t be a moment I won’t think of Alex. I wish I could hear his laugh and have the feeling of him around us all.”

Zoe, 15, said simply: “He was my best friend.”

Funny, engaging, witty, infectious, selfless, extremely caring and generous to a fault are just some of the descriptio­ns of the former pupil of Blacklaw Primary and Calder glen High School.

Alex, a second-year apprentice mechanic, had a passion for football and was an avid Mother well supporter and dedicated member off an group, Motherwell Bois.

A minute’s applause was planned at Fir Park for the teen last night in the 18th minute of ’Well’s League Cup match with Edinburgh City and banners were to be held aloft in his honour.

An online fund star ted by the fans has so far raised over £7000 which will be donated to a charity chosen by his parents.

Speaking about her son’s endearing qualities, Jill said: “Alex was a good listener, a patient listener. He just knew what the right thing to do and say was for other people. He didn’t consider himself in that, he just considered other people and made sure that they were okay.

“He did not like school but, despite that, he made many friends and his ability to engage with his peers in a very positive way was recognised by the school and encouraged, when he was invited to be a junior house captain. It was nice to know that those qualities he had were recognised.

“Zoe and Alex were extremely close. He looked after her. The first thing he said everyday when he walked through the door was‘ where’ s Zoe ?’ He always needed to know that she was okay.”

Robbie went on: “Alex was completely loving. Everything he did was for other people. It was unconditio­nal. I think he spent most of his time thinking about other people.”

On his seventh birthday Alex took up go-kart ing and, as reported in the News, went onto win a host of medals and trophies competing all over the UK.

“He was very successful,” said Robbie. “He travelled all the way down to Devon to race, as well as to Teesside, Cumbria and the north and east of Scotland.

“Alex has so many medals and cups. He made loads and loads of friends who he still kept in contact with.”

His parents added that, when Alex decided to do something, he threw himself into it full throttle.

Papa Iain added: “There’s been a very large passage of young men through here in the last few days, all with positive accounts of their relationsh­ip with Alex.

“It is nice to hear but it is also adding to the confusion.”

Alex’s friend Zach McCluskey posted a touching tribute on Twitter which read: “The one who always smiles and shrugs off their problems, the one who always calls to make sure you’re ok, the one who looks after everyone else and goes that extra mile to make sure everyone is fine and feels included is the one we lost, we will never forget you Alex.”

Calderglen High posted online: “Staff and pupils of Calderglen High School are greatly saddened to learn of the death of former pupil Alex Lindsay–a caring, helpful and enterprisi­ng young man with a lovely smile, full of charm and humour. We send sincere condolence­s to Alex’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

A memorial service will take place tomorrow at 11am in Linn Crematoriu­m before Alex is laid to rest at Phillipshi­ll Cemetery in East Kilbride.

A reception will take place at The Crutherlan­d Hotel. Mourners are being asked to wear Alex’s favourite colour, red.
