What did you think of Trump’s visit to UK?
News readers have their say on big issue
Donald Trump made a flying visit to Scotland amidst protests across the country.
Air Force One landed at Prestwick Airport in South Ayrshire and American president Trump played a round of golf at his own hotel, Trump Turnberry, after an overnight stay.
Thousands packed into Glasgow’s George Square to vent their anger at the controversial figure’s trip – so we asked shoppers in the town centre for their views on the visit.
Veronica Murphy from Westwood said: “I don’t like him. I think he’s a mad man. He’s got no filter but I think he’s right to visit because he is a representative from another country and everyone is allowed to have their say.”
Mark Fitzpatrick, also of Westwood, commented: “The protests were out of order but I don’t think anything bothers him. We live in a democracy and it’s right his visit went ahead.”
Murray man Callum Steven said: “I agree with protests on his policies but I think character assassination undermines your protest because it can seem petty and childish.
“The position of president will exist for a long time – while he will be there temporarily. The position should be respected.”
And Paul O’Brien said: “If he was banned he could gain more popularity or notoriety.
“His fan base in America could become hardened.
“But for the amount of money that’s been spent on it – it cost millions of pounds – that’s a problem.”
