Stabbing in street

Probe after violent incident

- Nicola Findlay

Police yesterday continued their investigation after a man was stabbed in broad daylight.

The 40-year-old was attacked on Saturday afternoon just before 5.30pm in Eider Avenue, Greenhills.

Police said the victim was involved in an altercation with other men.

He was taken to University Hospital Hairmyres and treated for stab wounds to the leg and buttock area before being released.

Officers are now appealing for information and are examining CCTV footage from the area at the time of the incident.

The serious assault is understood to be a targeted attack – but East Kilbride South councillor Archie Buchanan is urging anyone with details to contact police and insists this type of violent behaviour won’t be tolerated in his ward.

He said: “I find this behaviour totally unacceptable in an area which is full of families and young children.

“If anyone has any information at all about this violent assault they should contact the police, or myself in total confidence, as we in Greenhills won’t tolerate this type of behaviour from anyone.”

Detective Constable Alan Hamilton from Cambuslang CID is appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

He said: “At this time we are working to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding this incident and the men responsible.

“We believe that this was a targeted attack, and officers are carrying out further enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage as part of this investigation.

“At this time, I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with any information that may assist our enquiry to contact Cambuslang police office through 101, quoting reference number 3058 of July 21. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are also appealing for information after a 17-year-old was assaulted whilst walking through the wooded area of Blackwood near to Quarry Road in Whitehills.

Police say the teenager suffered bruising and minor injuries during the attack by a group of individuals shortly after midnight on Saturday into Sunday.

Officers are appealing for information as enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

Police are hunting thieves who stole £20,000 worth of plant equipment from the side of Lickprivick Road in Greenhills.

The road rolling vehicle was stolen between 6pm on Wednesday, July 18 and 7am the following day.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police through 101.
