A group of East Kilbride fundraisers had a knockout time raising much-needed cash for St Andrew’s Hospice.

The perfect 10 ‘Dollan Dolls’, who all attend the Aqua Centre’s gym, have raised more than £1400 after taking part in the It’s a Knockout event at Strathclyde Park.

The group swapped weights for inflatables with the team made up of captain Lindsay Rodger, Julieann Henderson, Dawn Jackson, Selina Woolcott, Linda Welsh, Sharron Callaghan, Margaret Deighan, Diane Quigg, Debbie Donachie and Caroline Cameron.

Lindsay, from East Mains, told the News: “We decided swap our weights and cardio for a slippery and soapy obstacle course in the name of a wonderful charity.

“A team member’s husband was in St Andrew’s Hospice in 2007 and received wonderful care in the St Michael’s ward – so it’s a cause close to the heart.

“We battled against another fundraising team in events that involved sitting cross-legged in a wonky wheelbarrow to deliver buckets of water to our team-mates; using a self-powered “Flintstones” style fish van to collect jellied eels; clambering up soapsud-strewn slopes with the aid of a very short rope and our team-mates, and many other challenges.

“It’s safe to say that the day was sponsored by giant inflatables, washing up liquid and lots of laughter!”

Lindsay added: “We competed throughout the afternoon in various time trials and were delighted to raise £1435.

“There wasn’t an overall winner as such on the day – everyone was just delighted to take part in such a great event.”
