Supermarket scheme Morrisons Lindsayfield is one of two of the company’s stores where a plastic bottles deposit return scheme is being trialled.

Customers will receive a points coupon if they hand in their bottles and online News readers had their say on the issue.

Lady-Janet-Young said: “I was in Berlin nearly three years ago and they had this in Lidl then. UK are always last.”

Lynda Mcconnell said: “I have used this a couple of times but as it is popular, it fills up quickly and a company have to come and empty it, I was told. It may be better to have two machines installed.”

Jacqui Shearer advised: “Just been and used it for the first time, earning 1200 points on my More card. However, it doesn’t take all plastic bottles.”

Marion Wilson reckons this could be the start of something big and said: “Great idea. Should be installed in all supermarkets.”

Angela Eikebu said: “Finally. Norway has been doing this for years, always wondered why we haven’t.”

Bob Drumgold said: “A great idea. Works really well in Holland so hope it catches on in UK and other countries.”

Lynn Gibson was another to report that the UK lags behind other nations when it comes to recycling schemes and added: “South Australia has been doing this for years. We are way behind.”

James Logan posted: “Great news, but perhaps locals could return their trolleys too!”
