More patrols for the Village

-

Police patrols will be stepped up in the Village amid fears the area is becoming a “no-go zone”.

A spike in anti-social behaviour in recent weeks led to calls for more bobbies on the beat.

And the local problem solving team (LPST) based at East Kilbride – which includes community cops PCs Katie Edwards and Kirsty Williams – have urged the public to report all disorder to them.

Sergeant Paul Doyle said: “Local officers based at East Kilbride police station were pleased to attend a meeting with local councillors, community leaders, residents and business owners to discuss community concerns relating to anti-social behaviour within the East Kilbride Village area.

“I would like to reassure the local community that these concerns were listened to and are being acted upon.

“Local policing is focused on tackling anti-social behaviour and making communities safer.

“I encourage anyone who has any concerns about anti-social behaviour or who requires police action to contact police by telephoning 101, or 999 if it is an emergency.

“Local problem solving officers and response policing officers are based out of East Kilbride Police Office 24 hours a day.

“The local problem solving team can also be emailed on lanarkshireLPSTEastKilbride@ scotland.pnn.police.uk

“There will be additional police patrols in the Village in the coming weeks to provide public reassurance and to tackle local issues.

“Local policing will also be working in close partnership with other agencies to address the concerns of local residents and business owners that were raised.”

PC Williams said:“The most important message we are trying to get across is please speak to us or get in touch if you have any issues at all.

“Feel free to approach us if you see us out and about.

“We want to reassure the public that we are working closely with the council and other partner agencies to combat any disorder.”

And PC Edwards added:“The Village is a lovely place and is enjoyed by lots of people, especially in the recent sunshine. We have a positive relationship with local businesses and make an effort to get out and speak to them as much as we can.

“The benefit of the new policing model is that they have in us a single point of contact for any local issue.”
