Organisers of East Kilbride Cattle Show said that Saturday’s fun-filled event was the best in 40 years – and not even some heavy downpours could dampen visitors’ spirits.
Hundreds gathered for the popular show at the National Museum of Rural Life in Kittochside.
And entrants came from far and wide to take in everything from farmyard favourites in the 280718farmshow_005 judging classes to speedy ferrets and vintage tractor races.
This year’s pony club display and games along with the usual showjumping classes also went down a treat.
The show’s champion of champions was John Wight from Midlock Farm, Biggar, with his Charolais bull.
A spokeswoman from East Kilbride Open Cattle Show Society said: “It was easily the best show we have had in 40 years. We had a great turnout and more entries than ever – especially of sheep for some reason. We’ve never had so many of them.
“It was also pleasing that we had entries from as far afield as the Borders and Edinburgh.
“But the day was equally well supported by the local community and everyone had a great time.”
The spokeswoman added: “Although the weather wasn’t as good as it has been, we only actually had a couple of heavy downpours and folk took shelter in the beer tents – but by teatime it was glorious sunshine again.
“Some of the new ideas we tried went down really well and we have plenty we can build on for the future and make sure it’s even bigger and better next year.” 280718farmshow_010 280718farmshow_014
