Hunter lift top trophy

Great victory in final for trio

- Paul Thomson

Hunter Bowling Club reigned supreme at the ladies’ invitational triples tournament – fending off competition from teams across Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire to lift the trophy.

The trio of Joyce Hadden, Mags Anderson and Sandra Luxton took home the title after beating the Giffnock triumvirate of Wilma Lendie, Liz Russell and Margaret Cox in the final.

East Kilbride Bowling Club played host to 24 teams over the course of the day on Saturday, July 21 and the 13th edition of the annual competition proved to be a roaring success.

After a welcome from EKBC president Ian Hamilton and ladies’ match secretary Cathie Scott, an enjoyable day was spent on the green with perfect weather for bowling and an opportunity to catch up with old friends – and make some new ones as well.

Lesmahagow’s team of Agnes Forsyth, Myra Weir and Elma Forsyth and the Chapelton side, comprising Nancy Lennox, Lynn Webb and Marjory McPherson, also performed well but bowed out at the semi-final stage.

Club secretary Muriel Brew said: “Many thanks for the attendance from our president Ian Hamilton who presented the prizes, to Jim Ballantyne, the representative for East Kilbride Sports Council and for their financial support towards the tournament.

“The club also wishes to thank our sponsor, Gerry Condron from Condron Optical in Westwood Square, who continued his financial support again this year.

“His support helped to make it a great day for us all.”
