East Kilbride duo ready for Euro challenge

-

Calderwood multi-sport athlete Martin Duthie warmed up for next weekend’s European Triathlon Championships at Strathclyde Park with second place in the British Age-Grade Championships in Newcastle.

Duthie, along with Greenhills athlete Scott McDermott and fellow members of local club, G72 Tri, are part of the Great Britain team for the prestigious event, all having earned their places in the squad in a series of qualifiers over the past 18 months.

Duthie said:“Although I have taken part inbothWorldandEuropeanChampionships before it is extra special to have it on my own doorstep and to have four of my clubmates in the GB team.“

Fortunately, G72 Tri do a lot of their training at Strathclyde Park and that should work to Team GB’s advantage.

Duthie added: “Strathclyde Park is a familiar training ground for G72 as we do a lot of our sessions here, so hopefully we do well.

“Myself and the other East Kilbride athlete in the group, Greenhills boy Scott McDermott, have been focussing on the Europeans all season.

“The other three, all from Blantyre, Martin Jones, David Duffy and David McMillan, have had one eye on this race whilst training for their first Ironman, which they all completed earlier this month in Austria.”

The Triathlon Championships will be held between August 9-11.
