What is your favourite track from Abba?

News readers have say on music greats

- Paul Thomson

Abba-mania has swept the nation once again with the release of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the sequel to the 2008 musical smash hit Mamma Mia!

A decade on, the greatest hits of the Swedish sensation have resonated with the public once more as the latest movie, starring Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Meryl Streep and Cher, topped the UK box office on its release.

So with movie-goers flocking to cinemas and, no doubt, dancing in the aisles, we asked shoppers in the town centre to name their favourite Abba hits.

John ‘Peely’ Wright from West Mains said: “There’s so many good ones, but Dancing Queen is my favourite. I like the rhythm of the music, it’s brilliant. I’ve not seen the movies yet.”

Mrs Falconer from Greenhills said: “The Winner Takes It All. If I get the chance I’ll go and see the new movie, but it was fully-booked when I tried to go.”

Catherine Brown and her family, who had just left a showing at the Odeon cinema, said: “I like Mamma Mia, but Fernando was quite good when Cher was singing it.” Her daughter Ava said: “I loved all of them.” Helen Hamilton added: “Waterloo. That was the one they did when Abba won Eurovision. The film was really good, I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Fellow movie-goer Zoe Connolly said: “All the ones in Mamma Mia are good, but I really liked SOS.”
