Diamond occasion for Stewartfield couple
Special anniversary
A Stewartfield couple celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss with a card from The Queen.
Tom and Grace Woodhouse celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in style recently.
They were joined by South Lanarkshire provost Ian McAllan and were presented with a card and scroll from Her Majesty by deputy lieutenant Sandy Wilkie.
Tom, born in Glasgow, met Grace, born in Cambuslang, at the West Parish Church Youth Club, Cambuslang, in 1953.
They married on Friday, June 13, 1958 at St Paul’s Church, Cambuslang, before setting up home on the south side of Glasgow.
The couple moved to East Kilbride in 1960 after Tom had served two years national service with the 8th Army Fire Service.
Tom and Grace have two sons and six grandchildren, who all live locally.
Tom worked as a joiner then as a clerk of works before becoming a chartered building surveyor.
Grace worked in retail fashion and soft furnishings, latterly as shop manager in Terleys.
They moved away from the town for a spell – returning to Glasgow’s south side in 1993 – then to Largs, North Ayrshire in 2014 before returning to East Kilbride in 2016.
Tom is involved in many activities, including bowls and golf while Grace enjoys flower arranging, baking and confectionery.
They also enjoy going to theatre venues both locally and further afield.
Provost McAllan said: “It was a tremendous honour to meet Tom and Grace and to be part of such a special celebration. “Congratulations to them both.” The couple were also presented with flowers and whisky on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council to mark their special day.
