Man faced knife thug at the shops

Duo await sentence and remanded in custody

- Court reporter

A shopper was threatened with a knife when he refused to buy drink for a man.

Sean Gallacher and a youth aged 17 then robbed him of a bottle of fruit juice, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.

Gallacher, 29, a prisoner, and the teenager, who cannot legally be named, admitted assaulting and robbing the victim in East Kilbride’s Westwood Square on April 8.

Callum Forsyth, prosecuting, said the man left a Spar shop about 5pm and was approached by Gallacher who was under the influence.

He was asked if he would buy alcohol for him but refused and then Gallacher became aggressive.

The teenager – who had been standing nearby – joined Gallacher and the victim tried to walk away.

However, Gallacher said he would stab him and the youth took a blade from the back of his trousers and challenged the man.

Gallacher grabbed a bottle of juice from the jacket of the man, who managed to make his way to the nearby Tesco store and police were contacted.

A few minutes later, Gallacher’s teenage accomplice was challenged by assistants at Tesco as he filled a basket with alcohol and tried to take it away without paying.

Again, he pulled out a knife. One of the assistants asked him: “Are you really going to stab me over some wine?”

Eventually the youth made off, dumping his shopping basket a short distance away.

He admitted stealing alcohol, brandishing a knife and making threats, headbutting a police officer later and breaking a bail curfew.

Sentence on both accused was deferred until August 17 and they were remanded in custody. Friendly Roxy is a gorgeous and friendly girl who arrived into the care of the staff at the SSPCA Centre in Lanarkshire after a change in her owners’ circumstances.
