Taking charge of repairs

-

Dear Editor,

For the past 18 months or so I have been trying to have the underpass from Telford Road leading to the job centre end of East Kilbride town centre cleaned up.

I was passed from one department to another.

But finally I was put in touch with a lovely chap from Scotland Transerv. They are responsible for the underpasses and they agreed to carry out some badly-needed repairs which were supposed to start in May.

However, they had a problem sourcing the material for the roof and this work, I have been told, will now start in September.

South Lanarkshire Council have agreed to put new lighting in and hopefully this will be done before the dark nights, making walking through this underpass less scary. Thank you Scotland Transerv. If you see something that’s badly in need of repair, report it and keep chasing it up. Nine times out of 10 it will be fixed.

Canyoufosteracat?

Dear Editor,

We have fosterers all over Lanarkshire who look after cats in their own homes.

At present we have a waiting list of cats who really need to come into our care and we have not enough fosterers to go round. We would love to have more cat lovers who would like to help us by becoming a fosterer.

Do you have a spare room, love to give, a driving licence and a desire to see homeless cats moving to their forever homes? We provide food, litter and all the equipment and we would expect you to treat the cat as your own, until it was time for them to move on to a permanent home.

If you think you have the time and love to give and this is something you feel you could do, please give us a call on (01698) 619219 or email lanarkshirecats@sky.com and we will get back to you.

Backinbusiness

Dear Editor,

Really pleased that the Village Laundrette is back open for business (Family laundrette rises from the ashes, August 1).

Whilst they were shut I had the chance to try the others but the Village won hands down.

As well as the laundry, the staff are excellent and very friendly.

Best of luck in the future!

Charles Andrew, The Murray Buspassbenefits Dear Editor,

Age Scotland and the Community Transport Association have welcomed news from the Scottish Government that the eligibility age for a national concessionary travel card will remain at 60.

But we have called on the transport secretary to explore how it could be extended to cover community transport schemes to better serve older people in rural Scotland.

Age Scotland has been campaigning for the eligibility age to stay at 60.

The benefits of the free bus pass are clear.

For every pound invested there is a return of nearly four as older people use it to shop, volunteer, attend medical appointments and much more.

Brian Sloan, Chief Executive Age Scotland
